Social Experiment

what if i’m just a social experiment— a person placed among people to see how much love he can give before he realises none of it was ever his to keep?

maybe every silence was recorded. every goodbye, a result. every i’m not going anywhere just another variable changed halfway through the trial.

maybe they wanted to know how many times a heart could be disappointed and still answer gently. how often someone could be forgotten and still remember everyone. how long a person could keep saying i understand before finally admitting that he didn’t.

maybe i was never difficult to love. maybe love was never the question.

maybe the question was how much of myself i would abandon just to stop other people from leaving.

and maybe this ends the moment i become aware—

the subject stops performing. the subject chooses himself. the subject leaves the experiment.
